CityUHK SEE Video Competition 2025
About the Competition:
The CityUHK SEE Video Competition 2025 is open to all full-time secondary school students in Hong Kong. This year’s theme, "Climate Change: Building Resilient Communities", encourages participants to explore innovative and impactful ways to strengthen community resilience in the face of climate challenges.
The competition aims to raise public awareness of climate resilience, environmental protection, and sustainable solutions that empower communities to adapt and thrive. We invite students to unleash their creativity and produce compelling short videos (maximum 3 minutes) that showcase practical strategies for resilience, adaptation measures, and the role of technology in shaping a sustainable future.
Bring your ideas to life and demonstrate how communities can overcome climate challenges through collaboration, innovation, and sustainability-driven action. Through storytelling, science, and creative expression, let’s inspire lasting change and build a stronger, more resilient future together.
Objectives:
- Explore how climate change impacts communities, ecosystems, and infrastructure, including challenges such as extreme weather, rising sea levels, and resource scarcity.
- Present innovative strategies that enhance the capacity of individuals, systems, and communities to adapt and thrive in the face of climate challenges.
- Inspire action and foster public understanding of climate resilience, green technology, and sustainable living.
- Encourage participants to integrate science, creativity, and impactful storytelling to drive meaningful change.
Key Considerations of the Theme:
- Focus on how climate change specifically impacts Hong Kong, such as typhoons, flooding, and rising temperatures.
- Suggest actionable, realistic ideas that communities can adopt, from green infrastructure to renewable energy initiatives.
- Showcase the role of education, collaboration, and community involvement in building resilience.
- Highlight how the integration of technology and innovation can enhance sustainability and adaptation.
Eligibility:
- Secondary school students in Hong Kong
- Individuals or teams of up to 10 students from the same school
- Each student or team can submit only one entry
Language:
Video presentation either in English or Chinese (Cantonese & Mandarin)
Format:
Participants are required to create a maximum 3-minute video. Upload to YouTube as an unlisted video (i.e. can only be seen and shared by anyone with the link). The video must be originally published.

Assessment Criteria:
Winning videos will be selected by a panel of judges appointed by the School of Energy and Environment, City University of Hong Kong based on below criteria:

Innovation & Uniqueness (40%) | Originality and uniqueness in storytelling. Innovative presentation of climate solutions or awareness initiatives. Engaging and thought-provoking approach to addressing climate change challenges. |
Production (20%) | Demonstrate technical proficiency and effective use of filmmaking techniques. |
Awards:
- Gold Award: One trophy and a book voucher worth HKD 2,000
- Silver Award: One trophy and a book voucher worth HKD 1,500
- Bronze Award: One trophy and a book voucher worth HKD 1,000
- Most Popular Video Award: One trophy and a book voucher worth HKD 1,000 for the student whose video received the highest number of votes.
- Best Participation Award for School: One trophy and a certificate for the school with the highest number of video entries
- All participants will receive a certificate of participation

- Originality and Copyright:
1.1 The entry must be the entrant's original work and must not infringe upon the copyright of any person.
1.2 The entry must be the entrant's first published work and must not have been previously published in any exhibitions, related events, or submitted in other competitions.
- Content Guidelines:
2.1 The entry must not contain obscene, violent, pornographic, defamatory, objectionable, insulting, or any controversial and inappropriate content.
- Accuracy of Information:
3.1 The entrant must ensure that all the information provided is genuine and correct.
3.2 Any entrant found to have provided dishonest or incorrect information, or who has been verified as such after the report, will be disqualified.
3.3 The entrant holds full responsibility for any loss caused to the School of Energy and Environment, City University of Hong Kong, or any third party.
- Modification and Return of Entry:
4.1 Once submitted, the entry should not be modified, exchanged, or returned.
- Authorization for Authorized Materials:
5.1 If the entry contains authorized material(s) or requires permission during video recording, the entrant must obtain the necessary authorization(s) from the copyright owner(s) or corresponding venue owner(s).
5.2 The entrant may be requested to provide approval documents as proof of authorization.
- Usage Rights:
6.1 The entrant grants the School of Energy and Environment, City University of Hong Kong, the usage rights to rename, copy, edit, distribute, and broadcast parts or the entirety of the entry, without restrictions.
- Disclaimer in Video:
7.1 The entrant must include a disclaimer at the start of the video stating, "This video is the entrant's original work and is submitted solely to the School of Energy and Environment, City University of Hong Kong."
- Judging and Final Decisions:
8.1 All decisions made by the judging panel are final.
8.2 The School of Energy and Environment, City University of Hong Kong, has full authority to make final decisions in all matters related to this competition, including the terms and conditions, prizes, and other arrangements, without prior notification.
- Acceptance of Terms and Conditions:
9.1 By submitting the entry, the entrant is regarded as accepting the above terms and conditions.
9.2 Any violation of the terms and conditions may result in disqualification from the competition, subject to the final discretion of the School of Energy and Environment, City University of Hong Kong.
9.3 There is no appeal mechanism available for this competition.
