Visit to Yan Oi Tong EcoPark Plastic Resources Recycling Centre on 7 February 2015
Students taking the undergraduate course, SEE4104 Sustainable Energy and Development, offered by the School participated in the visit to the Yan Oi Tong EcoPark Plastic Resources Recycling Centre on 7 February 2015 (Saturday).
The group first visited St. James’ Settlement “WEEE GO GREEN”, which is a key ecological project financed by the Environmental Conservation Fund. The WEEE GO GREEN project aims at establishing the most comprehensive recycling centre tackling the waste of electrical and electronic equipment in Hong Kong. During the visit, students learnt the refurbishment of dismantling and wasted appliances through recycling and regeneration, so that these products can benefit the needy and at the same time help create a better environment for Hong Kong.
After that, the group paid a visit to the Yan Oi Tong EcoPark Plastic Resources Recycling Centre, in which students attended a workshop on source separation of plastic products introducing the classification of plastic products and recycling labels. The staff of the EcoPark then took the students around the recycling plant. Students also learnt the plastic recycling process involving source separation, washing and the pelletisation of plastics through the visit.
