BST students show off their wares

Michael Woloschuk

Featuring a two-day exhibition of over 80 works by final-year students in the Division of Building Science and Technology's Higher Diploma Programmes, the ninth annual Built Expo got off to a fine start with welcoming speeches by Mr C M Jeung JP, Director of Buildings, the Buildings Department of the HKSAR, and Professor Edmond I Ko, Vice-President, Education.

"Built Expo 2001 is an excellent vehicle for helping us learn about sustainable development,"

said Mr Jeung in his opening remarks at the launch on 27 April. "CityU, and in particular, its Division of Building Science and Technology, has been instrumental in training qualified people for our ever-expanding city."

More than 200 students, staff, and building professionals jammed the Wei Hing Theatre to attend the Built Expo 2001 kickoff. The exposition, now in its ninth straight year, also featured seminars on sustainable development, protecting the environment, and sustainable architecture.

"These student exhibitions prove that our students are capable of producing quality work," said Professor Ko, referring to the more than 80 student projects on display at Built Expo 2001. "The projects also give CityU an opportunity to reach out to the community, and the community gives back to us."

The opening ceremonies also featured two student films featuring design and architecture themes. At the end of the ceremonies, students were presented with prizes

for their winning designs.
