Business Leadership Camp hails form seven students

Daniel Chen

A select group of 107 form seven students recently had their very first taste of university life thanks to the Business Leadership Camp organized by the Faculty of Business. The camp was held 27 and 28 June, one week before the release of Hong Kong's Advanced Level Examination results. The participants were impressed by the academic excellence of the Faculty and of CityU. Many expressed an interest in joining the Faculty in September.

"All participants were selected based on their academic performance and their intention to study business at CityU. We hope the two-day camp gave students a deeper understanding of our faculty and of the University," said Camp Director, Dr Margaret Poon. She expressed confidence in the Faculty's appeal to top high school graduates. A series of activities was prepared for the two-day camp, including a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) programme exhibition, departmental seminars, a business forum, an e-organization game and a high table dinner.

, CityU's Vice President for Undergraduate Education and Dean of Students, was invited to deliver a speech at the high table dinner on 27 June. He reminded the students that university education is not about "vocational training," but about "whole person development," which CityU has always advocated and practised. Professor Ko's speech generated waves of applause.

"Business Leadership Camp allowed me to experience BBA programme life at CityU ahead of time," said Kwok Shun Hei, a participant from Chong Gene Hang College. "I enjoyed the business forum section, the group interaction and solving real case problems. We found that some form seven students could do as well as university students," he added.

Professor L K Chan, Dean of Faculty of Business, spent time with the guest students. "I observed that they were all smart students, full of confidence and ambition. They enjoyed Professor Ko's interesting and thought-provoking speech. They made every effort to learn from their camp mentors and from each other," he said. All the participants received certificates for taking part in the camp. They voted the high table dinner, along with Professor Ko's speech, as "Our Favourite Activity."

CityU's Faculty of Business is the biggest of its kind in Hong Kong. According to a recent survey by an independent organization, CityU graduates rank No. 1 in working attitude and No.2 in IT literacy.
