Universities today face a number of challenges. Changing societal needs, rising expectations about education, economic developments, and technological advances all help shape the role of academic institutions.

To meet these demands, City University of Hong Kong, has over the past 16 years, undergone rapid changes. Along the way, we have also established a reputation as a young and dynamic university.

While we encourage students to be well-round individuals capable of contributing to the betterment of society through independent and creative thinking, our achievements in teaching, research, and consultancy, are not always known. With consistent outreach efforts, however, the community is beginning to take notice of our work and accomplishments. But we believe that more should be done.

I am pleased to announce the launch of CityU Today, a monthly newsletter in both print and Internet versions. This initiative will help keep our friends, students, staff and alumni informed of developments at CityU through news, event updates and announcements. The Internet version will also include feature stories, audio and video presentations, an archive of past articles, as well as pictures and video clips of the University. I invite you to explore the CityU Today online, and feel the pulse of this vibrant institution.

I also hope that CityU Today will improve your understanding of each other and strengthen our relationships inside and outside the University. I look forward to receiving any comments or suggestions that you may have.
