With plenty of buzz over Bluetooth wireless technology and mobile systems in our technology-driven lives, CityU's Department of Electronic Engineering seized the opportunity last week to promote its own power electronics and wireless communications developments at the Hong Kong Information Infrastructure Expo.  

One of the hottest innovations is Bluetooth Cookies, an intelligent wireless automation system with a WAP-based structure. Bluetooth can be used to control the operation of electronic devices, anywhere and anytime, by allowing various electrical equipment to be connected through wireless means.

Dr K F Tsang, an Associate Professor at the Department of Electronic Engineering has developed several applications with his colleagues, such as wireless headphones and dial-up profiles. Other noteworthy projects on display at the high-tech expo, such as a customized smart card module for design and production services and an efficient document image-processing unit based on intelligent page layout analysis, displayed the faculty's ability to transform new technology research into reality.

The exhibition was held from 22 to 25 February at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The Department actively turns innovative ideas into new products.
