A celebration of light

Michael Woloschuk

If the winter blahs have gotten you down, you'll be happy to learn that a guaranteed cure is available this week in Multi Purpose Room C, on the ground floor of the Amenities Building.

Kathleen Kwan's paintings, on exhibit until 13 January, are drawn from her travels in Europe and Asia. But what makes the watercolours stand out, particularly at this time of year, is her ability to infuse each painting with vibrant colours and a sure sense of warmth. "I especially love Europe and the colours there," says Kwan, a computer analyst who learned painting at a community college. "But every scene or person has a unique history, plenty of character, and a captivating story to tell. It's my mission to relate that story through my paintings."

Called Images Remembered, Kwan's exhibit of more than 30 paintings capture scenes that have inspired her through her travels in such places as Greece, Italy, and Provence. Visitors will certainly be overwhelmed by her brilliant colours and sense of light.

Organized by Student Development Services and the Cultural and Sports Committee, the exhibit is open to all. Kwan's work has been displayed in Seattle, Washington, and in Richmond, British Columbia. This is her first solo exhibit in Hong Kong.
