Program Objective:
This Summer Program at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universit?t (LMU) Munich, Germany is a four-week intensive program which is designed to provide students with an immersive experience in the German language, culture, and society. Through combination of language courses, cultural events, and leisure activities, participating students will have the opportunity to develop elementary proficiency in speaking, reading, writing, and comprehension, while immersing themselves in the vibrant student life at LMU Munich.
Brief overview:
The core component of the program is the intensive German course, which is specifically designed for students with little or no previous knowledge of the German language. The course spans four weeks and focuses on developing elementary proficiency in speaking, reading, writing, and comprehension. Through engaging activities and cultural/linguistic immersion, students will have the opportunity to make rapid progress in their language skills.
In addition to the language course, the summer program offers a diverse range of cultural events and leisure activities. These activities aim to provide students with insights into German culture and the German way of life. Participating students will have the opportunity to engage in cultural excursions, visit historical landmarks, experience local traditions, and interact with German students and community members. These experiences will enrich their understanding of Germany, foster intercultural competence, and create lifelong memories.
A program certificate will be awarded upon the successful completion of 100 contact hours in German language classes, demonstrating achievement of the A1.2/A2 level in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Estimated Student Contribution:
The University's Global Experience for All Funding Scheme subsidizes up to 60% of the direct costs for participants in this LC Summer Program. These costs include the course fee, airfare, accommodation, and local transportation between the airport and student residence on both the arrival and departure days. Students participating in the program are responsible for the remaining expenses.
The estimated contribution required from each student is approximately HKD8,930. However, selected students should refer to the latest announcements from the LC to confirm the exact amount, as this could vary due to fluctuations in flight fees, exchange rates, and other related cost factors.
Program Specific Requirements:
Any undergraduate student who is currently learning (or who has learnt) German at CityUHK is eligible to apply for this summer program. Preferences will be given to students in their senior years of study who demonstrated great interest in their studies with a proven track record of consistently good academic performance, as well as an interest in German language and culture.
