Professor Raymond Chan, Dean of the College of Science, delivered a talk titled “At the Bottom of Everything” at CityU’s BOLD Forum.
Professor Chan began with a direct search game on Wikipedia and invited audience to type in any word of preference, then click the first link explaining the word and repeat the process. It is surprising that one would finally arrive in a Wiki page of science! “When you get to the bottom of everything, you’ll find ‘science’. You may wonder why science is at the bottom of everything,” Professor Chan remarked, “it’s a very good question indeed, because the question already gives the answer.”
Professor Chan led audience through his research findings and other latest technological developments, to understand this interesting observation. Audience will surely be amazed by the close connection between science and our everyday life. “Knowing how things work is not good enough, we need to get to the bottom to understand why they work,” Professor Chan reminded, “and at the bottom, you will find science there.”
BOLD Forum is a series of powerful talks delivered by CityU notable professors. Each talk gives insights on an area, e.g., the development and an outlook of a discipline, sharing of great idea or personal experience, aiming to inspire the secondary school students in planning their pathways for their future.
