Student residents respond to the University's call for donations. In early April 2004, students launched a hostel-wide fundraising campaign to rally support for the cause.

Because of the outbreak of SARS, also known as atypical pneumonia, City University, together with its seven local counterparts, suspended classes for two weeks, from 29 March to 13 April. Although the situation seemed alarming, the two-week suspension was an unexpected holiday for many CityU students, especially for the non-local students who live in halls.
CityU Banquet, one of the biggest annual functions held by the Students; Union, took place at the University Circle on 8 November. The event was well received, with a record over-subscription for tickets.
Twenty Shanghai students, recruited from the Universities of Jiaotong and Fudan on scholarships from the Hong Kong Jockey Club and private donors, enrolled in three-year bachelor degree programmes at CityU.
