Medical representatives from the government, Legco and academia, gathered May 22 to discuss the need for the establishment of a regional disease surveillance centre in the territory to tackle the spread of infectious disease. The forum, "Lifting Hong Kong's Regional Status: The Establishment of a Regional Disease Surveillance Centre," was organized by CityU's APEC Study Centre.
Over 40 paintings in a smorgasbord of styles, including impressionism, cubism and traditional Chinese brush painting, are on display now in CityU's Multi-Purpose Room C from 21 to 25 May. Organized by the Cultural and Sports Committee, the exhibition unveils not only works of art by Mr Chiang Hau Fun, but also the artist's love of Hong Kong.

The theme of CityU's fifth annual cultural festival--Hands Across the Water--was chosen to reflect the many international cultures that were celebrated at the festival.
An ambiance of culture and well-being pervaded the CityU campus throughout March and April, with the Wellness March proceeding in full gear and the Cultural Festival, with the them of "Hands Across the Water", featuring numerous performances, seminars and concerts. The atmosphere was further enhanced by a number of inter-collegiate contests, including sports, debates and recitals, held on and off campus.
Around 350 music lovers -- including children and grownups -- packed the Wei Hing Theatre on 26 March for a piano concert in commemoration of composer Ludwig van Beethoven, who died that same day 175 years ago.
An audience of more than 300 danced to the rhythm of a Latin beat at University Circle as the World City Cultural Night extravaganza drew to a close. The 9 March event, which marked the opening of CityU's 2002 cultural festival, embraced an array of multi-cultural performances, such as Scottish bagpipes, Australian songs, Indian dance, American jazz, Chinese music, English folkdance, Latin salsa and African drums, all under the "Love and Harmony" theme.
Concertgoers were treated to a fine evening of Mozart on 24 February as the City University Philharmonic Orchestra performed its annual concert at the Hong Kong Academy for the Performing Arts.
