It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Professor William Case who, from 2007 to 2017, was a professor in the Department of Asian and International Studies (AIS), which became part of the Department of Public and International Affairs in 2022.
A distinguished scholar in the field of Southeast Asian comparative politics, he helped strengthen CityUHK's Southeast Asia Research Centre (SEARC) as one of the major centres for the study of the region globally when he served as SEARC director from 2007 to 2011. From 2011 to 2013 he served as acting Head of Department of AIS, enhancing the department's research profile in a highly collegial fashion. Before coming to CityUHK he had held academic positions at Griffith University, the University of New South Wales, and Australian National University. After retiring from CityUHK in 2017, he served as Head of School and Professor of Politics as the University of Nottingham Malaysia in the School of Politics and International Relations.
Bill was a champion of Southeast Asian politics, a field to which he made significant contributions through his teaching, research, and numerous publications. His contribution to both AIS and SEARC made a lasting impact on his students and colleagues at CityUHK and beyond.
