Greenhouse Gas Emissions
City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) is dedicated to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and striving for net zero on campus. Recognising the critical role of higher education institutions play in addressing climate change, the University is actively developing strategies to mitigate its environmental impact. Diverse measures are implemented to enhance energy use efficiency, increase the generation of renewable energy and promote water conservation and recycling practices.
Following the standardised methodologies for calculating GHG emissions, CityUHK monitors the carbon footprint closely. The emissions in 2023-2024 were 28,335 tons of CO2-equivalent from Scope 1 and 2 sources, reflecting a declining trend against CityUHK's baseline emissions in 2018-2019.
Through proactive measures and transparent reporting, CityUHK is positioning itself as a key player in the global movement towards sustainability, making positive contributions towards a greener future for all.
