Outbound Exchange

Student Obligations

  • Students would be registered as not-for-degree exchange students in the overseas universities.
  • Students are advised to visit the websites of the partner institutions prior to the exchange and select courses to make study plans to facilitate credit transfer to CityU.
  • Students should consult their exchange coordinator or academic advisor or programme leader at CityU about credit transfer before their exchange study. After completing the exchange programme, they will need to consult their programme leader about the actual transfer of credits and they should submit the official transcript to their academic units for credit transfer arrangements. The approved credits will be transferred back to their academic record at CityU. For further details, contact the Academic Regulations and Records Office and their home department.
  • According to the University's academic regulations, at least half of the credits required for normative 4-year Bachelor Degree must be earned by successful completion of CityU courses. As for other awards or entry to CityU, please visit the website of Academic Regulations and Records Office.
  • Students should be aware of the differences in the academic calendar between that of CityU and the host institution. Some host institutions schedule the examination period at a later time and that period might be in clash with the start of a semester in CityU. Should students fail to return to CityU to continue their studies for the ensuing semester due to the above reason, they should notify their programme leaders and departmental exchange coordinators in advance for alternative arrangements.
  • Students must abide by the law of the host country and the regulations of the host university.
  • Students must return to CityU to resume their studies upon completion of the exchange period.
  • Most partner institutions require exchange students to purchase a medical/travel insurance during their study. Students have the responsibility to check what sort of insurance packages they need to purchase by visiting the websites of the partner institutions. Students are also recommended to purchase the theft insurance, in addition to the mandatory medical insurance at the partner universities.
  • Students should be responsible for checking the information of the consulate generals in order to apply for student visas on time for exchange studies.
  • Students should act as goodwill ambassadors of CityU while studying abroad.
  • Students must attend the pre-departure trainings and briefing sessions organised by the Global Engagement Office.
  • Students are required to assist the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences in the promotional activities of the student exchange programme.
  • Students are required to submit a reflective report, quality photos taken during the Student Exchange Programme, the official transcript issued by the host institution, and any other assignments as required by GEO/College/Department.
