Information for CityUHK CLASS students taking courses offered by The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST)

Application Procedures and Details

  1. CityUHK CLASS students are required to fill in an application form with endorsement from course leader(s) of equivalent course(s) at CityUHK and major leader and submit it, together with copy of the latest online grade display for previous academic qualification obtained, to the College Office at LI-6361 or via email ch.exchange@cityu.edu.hk. Applications without your Home AU’s endorsement would not be processed. Acceptance of the student is at the discretion of HKUST, taking into account its quota availability and other relevant factors.
  2. Students enrolled in bachelor’s degree programmes offered by CityUHK CLASS may participate voluntarily, on endorsement from their respective Home AU. Students in Year 2 or above with a minimum GPA at 2.5 or above at the time of application are eligible for this scheme. Final-year students are not advised to take part in this scheme in their final term of study.
  3. According to the immigration policy, non-local students admitted to take up post-secondary programmes will be imposed with a condition of stay to take up a prescribed course in a prescribed education institution. Non-local students’ Student Visas only allow them to study at CityUHK. As a result, applications from non-local students will not be accepted.
  4. Students will be informed of the application result by HKUST via CityUHK CLASS.
  5. Students admitted to a course will be officially registered as regular student under a non-degree seeking program in HKUST and are required to participate fully in the course, which includes completion of coursework and examination, if applicable, according to the schedule of HKUST.
  6. The Host Institution will provide tuition fee and application fee waiver to students.

Course Registration, Examination and Grade Results

  1. Students should observe the rules and regulations prescribed by HKUST during course registration.
  2. CityUHK CLASS students could attend courses of up to NINE (9) credit units per student per semester at HKUST. Course(s) taken at HKUST will also be counted towards the study load at CityUHK.
  3. Students will be informed of course registration details and results by HKUST via CityUHK CLASS.
  4. CityUHK CLASS students are allowed to register HKUST courses on its Undergraduate Program & Course Catalog.
  5. Requests for withdrawal from a course should be submitted to HKUST AIS before the specified deadline. Late applications will normally not be entertained. No replacement of courses is allowed after withdrawal of the original course.
  6. Students are responsible to make sure that there are no time clashes in their class schedule.
  7. No make-up examination will be arranged if students admitted to a course and cannot sit for the examination. Students are advised to consider taking courses without an examination component.
  8. CityUHK CLASS students taking courses at HKUST should note that the course grades are to be assigned by HKUST, and the course grades will not be recorded on the transcripts issued by CityUHK, nor will they be included in the calculation of GPA for the CityUHK awards. The credits for courses with failed grade will not be transferred.
  9. Grades will be assigned to students at the end of a course, and a transcript will be sent to CityUHK CLASS for release to their students. To comply with the requirement of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance, the consent of students for the release of their course results to CityUHK CLASS will be sought during the course application stage.

Credit Transfer

  1. CityUHK CLASS students should get pre-approval for credit transfer before taking course(s) offered by HKUST. Students are required to fill in the relevant sections in the application form and seek the approval and signatures of Major Leader and Course Leader(s) of the corresponding course(s). Relevant Department(s)’ stamp(s) is(are) also required.
  2. In order to facilitate Major Leader and Course Leader’s consideration of the credit transfer, students should provide them with syllabus/detailed information of the course(s) that students would like to take.
  3. The final decision on credit transfer of any course(s) rests with the Department(s) concerned.
  4. At the end of the semester, the College Office will forward the approved application form, together with a copy of the official transcript issued by HKUST to ARRO for the processing of credit transfer.

  4. Examination timetable and related details normally will be released one month before the start of examination period.
  5. Study under this Scheme will not lead to a degree or other awards from HKUST. Upon completion of study, an academic report will be sent to the students via their Home Institution. Students may also apply for a transcript according to HKUST’s procedures.
