A delegation led by Professor Xin Wang, Dean of College of Science (CSCI), visited five top universities in Kazakhstan in mid-April 2025. The debut visit to this Central Asia country was fruitful in building networks and laying the foundation for future collaborations.
Faculty members, including Professor Denver Li, CSCI’s Associate Dean (Research and Postgraduate Education); Professor Ya Yan Lu, Head of the Department of Mathematics; Professor Yang Ren, Head of the Department of Physics; and Professor Maria Babak, Assistant Professor from the Department of Chemistry, joined the CSCI delegation.
In the trip, the delegation visited Satbayev University, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, and Kazakh-British Technical University at Almaty, Nazarbayev University and L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University at Astana, to explore joint academic programmes, student exchange and research collaboration opportunities and to promote CSCI’s postgraduate programmes. “Postgraduate Study in Hong Kong” information sessions were also delivered to Kazakhstan students. We are pleased to meet good students, and on-site interviews were directly arranged for potential PhD students on their university campus.
Thanks to the Consulate General of the Republic of Kazakhstan for connecting us with some of the top Kazakhstan universities, which contributed a lot to the success of the trip.
