After years of hybrid mode, the College of Science’s (CSCI) UG Information Day finally resumed completely to face-to-face mode on Oct 7, 2023, with hundreds of participants flocking to our booth for the latest admission tips.
HKDSE takers interested in science visited the booth with their parents and friends to obtain the latest updates on the undergraduate programmes we offered. At the Thematic Talk: “How Science Inspires GREAT Technopreneurs”, Professor Andy Siu, Programme Leader of the “Global Research Enrichment and Technopreneurship (GREAT)” undergraduate option, introduced the admission requirements in detail. He assured that all GREAT students will be guided in research on their interested topics and can even realise their innovation.
Mr. Edmond Yau, an Industrial Mentor of GREAT, Founder and CEO of Koln 3D Technology (Medical) Limited, joined the talk as a guest and shared his entrepreneurial journey. Further sharing was given by a current student of GREAT, Mr. Issac Ho, on his valuable learning and internship experiences. He will be heading to Cambridge next year for a 6-month research internship.
Professor Alex Wong, CSCI’s Associate Dean (Outreach and Internationalisation) introduced the various overseas enrichment programmes offered by the College in another talk. He invited Mr. Eddy Cheng and Mr. Vardhan Basnet to share their fruitful exchange experience in the USA.
Admission consultation sessions offered by the Department of Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics were all very popular. Programme Leaders, Admission Tutors, and graduates introduced their respective programmes and answered enquiries on the admission scores, JUPAS banding strategies, career prospects and student life at the College of Science. Some participants even stayed behind to chat with the Programme Leaders and Admission Tutors so that they could make informed decisions about their education in science.
The Info Day also included our most popular guided laboratory tours with demonstrations on colourful chemistry, magnetic levitation and 3D imaging, ferromagnetic resonance of yttrium iron garnet sphere, and AIstain – AI Image Generation for Pathology, arousing participants’ interest to explore the fun in science.
