
Professor Raymond Chan, Dean of the College of Science, Dr Condon Lau, Associate Professor of the Department of Physics, and Dr Yun Wah Lam, Associate Professor of the Department of Chemistry, delivered talks for the “Science in the Public Service” during its 2020 delivery.
Professor Raymond Chan delivered his talk on “Matrix and Its Applications in Imaging”, introducing that matrices are everywhere and how matrices are used in everyday life. Dr Condon Lau talked about “Physics Spots Pneumonia, and other Medical Applications”, discussing the applications of physics in modern medicine, including imaging pneumonia. Dr Yun Wah Lam participated as a panelist and presented in a forum themed “Dissolving the Border: Dialogue, Collaboration and Integration between Art and Science”, looking into cross-disciplinary knowledge and experience. “Science in the Public Service” (SIPS) is a joint campaign by government bureau /departments and other organisations to promote their scientific work and application of technology to the provision of services for the general public. A series of public forums and talks on the theme “Science in Everyday Life” has been held from August to November this year. CityU is one of the cooperating partners of the SIPS campaign to contribute to the society.
