Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Neutron Scattering Science and Technology Joint Laboratory, co-established by CityU and the Institute of High Energy Physics under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), was officially commissioned on 15 January 2020, revealing the milestone of CityU contributing to the scientific advancement in the region.
Our first and the long-awaited CityU Science Challenges have successfully taken place on 4 and 11 January 2020, when over 500 participating secondary school students challenged themselves on the subjects of Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics on CityU Campus.
A pioneering approach to fighting cancer has revealed as much as a two-third reduction in tumour size and weight in laboratory tests using an anti-cancer chemical compound developed by Dr. Guangyu Zhu, Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry, and his team at City University of Hong Kong (CityU).
Five faculty members from the College of Science have been listed as the “Highly Cited Researchers” by Clarivate Analytics for 2019 in respective categories of Chemistry, Cross-Field, Engineering and Materials Science. Congratulations for their exceptional achievements!
Xunlei Qian, a third-year student from the Department of Mathematics, teamed up with Boxun Yan (Department of Electrical Engineering) and Chen Wang (Department of Computer Science), won the second prize in the Contemporary Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling (CUMCM) 2019, under the supervision by Dr Xianpeng Hu, Assistant Professor of the Department of Mathematics.
The College of Science and the College of Engineering were honoured to receive the delegation of Chang’e 4 Lunar Mission from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the China National Space Administration on 23 October 2019. The visit successfully connected national scientists and researchers in the university, creating solid ground for future collaboration in different technological areas.
