Students of CityU's School of Creative Media (SCM) are making their mark on the local and the international scene. Hamlet Lin Yiu-bong and Chan Tze-him, year three and year two SCM students respectively, showcased their media production and creative narration skills in the recent Radio Hong Kong Television (RTHK) Putonghua Festival Short Movie Contest.
CityU's scientific forays into the Pearl River Delta Region span a wide range of subjects, from manufacturing engineering to information technologies to environmental conservation.
Dear Colleagues, In the past month or so, I have received numerous inquiries about how much money CityU has raised in relation to the Government Matching Grant Scheme. In the minds of many in the Hong Kong community, and perhaps in the minds of members of our University community too, this is no longer a fund-raising activity that every university must do and will continue to do, but another ranking contest among the eight UGC-funded institutions.
The demand for knowledge of international accounting rules and practices, coupled with a desire to improve their English language skills, has prompted the accounting professionals in the mainland China to look for quality programmes with an international slant.
CityU's achievements in education have received high praise in the second round Teaching and Learning Quality Process Review (TLQPR). "There is an underlying and comprehensive quality assurance structure in place at CityU, that draws on a culture of evidence," said the Panel in the TLQPR Report.
A collection of 200 ceramic relics, now on display at the CityU Gallery until 8 January, retraces the historical importance of porcelain as China's maritime export to and cultural exchange with the West.
The Management Board, on 5 December, endorsed the administrative arrangements for the Departure Scheme:
Our students shone at the 8th Challenger Cup Competition, a national inter-varsity contest for academic, scientific and technological research, by winning second place overall (Hong Kong/Macau section) and several individual awards.
"We are proud to build a bridge from east to west, and we hope, one day, scholars from opposite sides of the bridge will meet," said Professor Ng Sik-hung, Head of the Department of Applied Social Studies (SS), at the opening ceremony of the "Family Therapy Forum: East Meets West" on 4 December.
CityU's School of Continuing and Professional Education (SCOPE) will launch certificate and diploma hospitality management programmes in March 2004 in partnership with the hotel management trainer Educational Institute of the American Hotel & Lodging Association (EI of AH&LA). These new initiatives target adults working in the industry and school leavers who aim to pursue a career in hotel management.
