More than 100 university students gathered at CityU for the Student Leadership Conference 2009. The theme of the conference, running from 1 to 6 June, was “University education and employability”.

CityU students claimed 12 of the 20 prizes on offer in four categories at the fourth City Literary Awards, reflecting the language proficiency and sound understanding of literature of the University’s students.

The Chinese Civilisation Centre opened the exhibition “Intertwined - The Art of Gao Made and Chen Ruqin” at CityU Gallery, with more than 60 artworks by the couple on display from 15 May to 5 July.

The Fourth City Literary Festival was held from 24 to 27 April in Hong Kong and Macau. Prominent writers spoke at seminars and workshops scheduled for both cities to promote creative writing and help nurture young writers.

A seminar on “Higher education in the UK and Hong Kong during the economic downturn” was held at CityU on 16 April, co-organised by CityU and University of Sheffield, United Kingdom.

Projects of six students and staff of the School of Creative Media were invited to be shown in the 33rd Hong Kong International Film Festival, including award-winning student’s film.

The Cultural and Sports Committee held the City Cultural Salon "Cultural exchange between East-West in Dunhuang" on 24 March, featuring renowned historian, Professor Rong Xinjiang.

Professor Zhang Longxi, Chair Professor of Comparative Literature and Translation, has been honoured with a special reception marking his election as a foreign member of the esteemed Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities. [full story]
